How To Wear Head-To-Toe Black
Black is a colour that minimalists tend to gravitate towards… it’s chic, hassle free, and the colour looks good on practically everyone! Keeping an all-black look interesting though can be tough sometimes! Here are some tips on how to wear head-to-toe black without looking dull!
Mix your textures
Wearing a black knit dress with a cardigan and tights will look flat, as all the materials will blend into each other. Consider playing with materials instead… a lace skirt with a black cotton shirt or a ribbed pencil skirt with a thin sweater. Wearing different textured clothes will help break up the black and stop you looking like a waitress!
Play with proportions
If wearing a big flouncy skirt, keep the top streamlined, or if wearing slim fitting trousers or jeans, wear an oversized jumper or flowing shirt.
Add detail
Look for subtle details when buying black clothes… black shirts with two layers, skirts and trousers with lace or paneling.
Show some skin
Wearing head-to-toe black with only your face showing can be bland (and a little scary). Make sure to have a flash of skin showing to break it up… some ankle, décolletage, wrists etc. This is especially relevant in winter!
Consider your hair colour
Blondes have it easy when wearing all black. They automatically don’t look as ‘sullen’ as they have a bright halo of blonde hair brightening up their all-black look. Us brunettes have to be a little more careful! Keep makeup nice and bright to create the perfect juxtaposition.
