What Is A Minimal Wardrobe?

The concept  of ‘less is more’ may be quite a foreign concept to some, however it’s a concept that I have endeavored to pursue these last two years since moving to Europe.

So what is a minimal wardrobe? What exactly does it mean?

Well, a minimal wardrobe means that every item in your wardrobe has a purpose. It means having a wardrobe that has as many items as you need to feel functional, however the basis premise is that it’s a capsule sized wardrobe.

It’s all about keeping the clothes you actually use, and getting rid of the ones that you don’t. One of my favourite statistics is that people only use 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time. Having a minimalist wardrobe means that you are using all of your clothes, all of the time.

Having a minimalist, or curated, wardrobe means that every piece in it makes you feel absolutely amazing, and there is no room for ill fitting or bad quality clothes. Each piece has been thoughtfully selected and has been done so with the quality, as well as the fit, of the fabric in mind. Each piece in your minimalist wardrobe will work with each other perfectly.

Not all minimalist wardrobes will look the same, it is entirely based on the style of the beholder. It is based on what you need, more than what it is you want. The amount of items will vary from person to person, however a minimalist wardrobe usually has between 20-30 items, although it is possible to have more or less depending on your lifestyle. Your minimal wardrobe will change seasonally.

Stay tuned on a post series about creating your minimalist wardrobe.
