How To Dress Like A Berliner This Winter
It may be edging towards summer here in my new home of Berlin, but I know that back home in Australia, everyone is gearing up for a lovely cozy winter! Cold means something different in Berlin; spring weather here could be called winter weather in Australia (especially Perth) and so I’ve been wearing and buying clothes here in spring time, that I would actually be wearing during winter in Australia!
Here are the quintessential items of a Berliner.
A Berliner starts creating her outfit around her green anorak. I guarantee you that every Berliner has this in her wardrobe. A lighter one for spring & summer and a lined heavier version for autumn & winter.
Worn in a cut that suits her, the Berliner will have a few pairs of dark jeans in her wardrobe. The perfect transition from day to night.
3. Black flat ankle boots or Converse
Women either wear one or the other here. Since walking and bike riding are the main forms of travel, both are extremely practical as well as stylish.
A crisp blue shirt adds a certain elegance to the outfit. Worn half tucked in at the front but out at the back is key.
The canvas bag is the dream bag for a Berliner. You can buy them with basically any print you want on the front and they will store all your Sunday flea market finds!

It’s definitely that very Scandinavian vibe – I love the idea of dressing so simply like this through the winter. Just need to pick up that parka… 😉
