Dubrovnik, Croatia is like a home-away-from-home for me. I’ve been here more times than I can count, due to my father being born here. The first time I came here I was age 7, but it wasn’t until my second time at age 14, that I really understood the beauty and history behind this city… and I’ve been back every year since.

Dubrovnik is small city, with a population of around 43 000 people, however the city expands dramatically in the summer, when up to 5000 come through the city gates on any given day, due to the influx of cruise ships that stop here. The city is called the “pearl of the adriatic”, and rightly so. Summer is definitely the best time to come, as the city comes alive. Some of the best events/thing to do are:

Walk the Old Town Walls

Walking around the city walls will take around 2 hours and will give you the best view of the city. You can take it at your own pace and stop at the few cafes along the way!

Cable Car

The cable car will take you from just outside the city, to the top of Mount Srd above the city. The views are obviously amazing, and they say that on a good day, you can spot Italy on the other side of the Adriatic!

Swimming at Banje Beach

The water in the Adriatic is amongst the cleanest in the world. Swimming during summer is a must, as the water is always super warm. You can spend whole days swimming and reading on the beach, and many do. Banje is located just north of the city and as such, has a great view of the city walls.

Gradska Kavana

People watching is a tradition in Dubrovnik, and there’s no place to do this other than Gradska Kavana, while having a coffee and a slice of cake. The cafe is located at the end of Stradun (main street), underneath the clock tower.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival

The festival runs every year from July to August and this year, will include over 80 theatre, music, film and dance programs in the many churches, fortresses, squares and streets around Dubrovnik.
